Augusta Love
Acrylic on canvas
For Augusta Love, the red symbolizes our opportunity to come together in love to make a better community for everyone who calls Augusta home. There is a divide and so the red does not completely meet, but it is represented on both sides of the heart. Standing in that gap, are those community activists and public servants who are making the sacrifice to create the best Augusta possible for all, not just a few. You will see one side of the heart elevated to reflect the disparity that exists in our community. Whether the disparity is in the form of wealth, health, or justice, it is unbalanced.

and classism.

Ms. Ism
Acrylic and ink on canvas
Reflecting on the world's perception of women of color, Ms. Ism combines hard and soft lines injected with words. The body of Ms. Ism is robotic. She has morphed her natural physical features into systemic expectations of serving others. As equally natural, Ms. Ism embodies individualism that is held closely to her heart. Ms. Ism battles conflict with how the world perceives her and how she perceives herself -
a queen.
